Congratulations Ava Knouff

Congratulations to Ava Knouff for breaking the junior high girls 1600m run record with a time of 5:40.59 at the SCAL Meet on Friday May 12th. The previous record of 5:42 was set by Allison Roeth in 2008. Ava also broke her own record in the junior high girls 800m run with a time of 2:36.17 at the Houston Tri-Meet on Friday, April 28th. Her old record 2:39.79 was set at the Botkins Quad Meet on Monday, April 17th. The previous record holder was Allison Roeth with a time of 2:40.00 set in 2008.

Congratulations Mariah Booher

Congratulations to Mariah Booher for tying the junior high girls pole vault record with a vault of 7 feet 6 inches at the SCAL Meet on Friday May 12th. The record was set by Ava Parin in 2016.

Congratulations to Allie Voisard, Morgan Ely, Becca Selanders, and Hollie Voisard for breaking their own record in the high school girls 4 x 800 relay with a time of 10:11.99 on May 10th during the SCAL Track Meet at Fairlawn. Their old record of 10:25.95 was set at Fairlawn on April 11th. The previous record holders were Julia Pohlman, Missi Locker, Rebekah Dawson, and Sara Michael with a time of 10:35.6 in 1996.

Boys Basketball Camp

Spring Sports Awards Program

Houston High School held their Spring Sports Awards Program on Monday, May 15th. Special award winners in girls track were Shelby Ayers with Most Points Field, Hollie Voisard with Most Points Track, and Kaitlyn Ellison with the Wildcat Award. Special award winners in boys track were David Stammen with Most Points Field, Ethan Knouff with Most Points Track, Devyn Ostrander with the Wildcat Award, Cameron Arnold with the Russ Richards Award, and Wesley Jester with the Ryan Mohler Award. Special award winners in baseball were Dylan Hensley with the Best Offensive Player Award, Tristin Freistuhler with the Best Defensive Player Award, and Isaiah Beaver with the Wildcat Award. Special award winners in softball were Jenna Jarrett with the Best Offensive Player Award, Olivia Bowser with the Best Defensive Player Award, and Lydia Lentz with the Wildcat Award. Receiving first team All County recognition in softball were Jenna Jarrett and Sarah Monnier. Olivia Boswer and Addie White received second team All County. Dylan Henlsey received first team All County in baseball. Congratulations to all spring athletes!

Congratulations to the 6th grade volleyball team that took part in the Midwest Youth Volleyball League. The 6th grade team finished in 2nd place out of 30 teams in the gold division.

Congratulations Kaitlyn!

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Ellsison on receiving a State FCCLA Scholarship at the FCCLA State Conference. She was one of 8 students to receive a $500 scholarship from the FCCLA Endowment! Kaitlyn, Harley Burns, Kendra Hecht, Jordan Manuel and FCCLA Advisor Mrs. Pleiman attended the conference from April 24th through April 25th.

FFA Greenhouse Sale Fundraiser

The Houston FFA Chapter will be hosting a greenhouse sale fundraiser running Monday, April 24th – Saturday, May 6th or while supplies last. Products include flowers, vegetables, hanging baskets and mulch. Speed Dating a Book

The Reading Between the Lines Book Club held Speed Dating a Book, as a sequel to their Blind Date with a Book held in February, on the morning of Wednesday April 26. Each student read a different book and proceeded to have speed dates with other students as they asked and answered questions about each others books. The club is advised by Mrs. Chappie, Mrs. McClurg, and Mrs. Paulus.

Congratulations to Shelby Ayers for breaking her own high school discus record at the Botkins Quad Meet on Tuesday April 18th. Shelby uncorked a throw of 121' 8." She set the previous record of 113'4" at the Coldwater Quad Meet on March 29th.  

Congratulations Logan Baltes

Congratulations to Logan Baltes for breaking the junior high boys long jump record with a jump of 18' 7.5" on April 8th at the Ft. Loramie Junior High Invitational. The previous record of 17' 7" was set by Chris Cox in 1986.

Senior Recognition Night

On Tuesday April 4th, Houston High School held the second annual Senior Recognition Night. All seniors and their parents were invited and those seniors with plans for college or military service were recognized.

Staff Appreciation Banquet 2017

On Wednesday April 19th, Hardin-Houston Local School held their annual Staff Appreciation Banquet. Bertha Swob and Sandy Kemp were recognized with retirement awards for 30 years and 28 years of service respectively. Congratulations to all those that received service awards.

Congratulations to Seth Stoodt and Kaytlyn Riffell on being crowned Prom King and Queen on April 1st during "A Golden Night."

State Geography Bee

Congratulations to Gustav Gothberg on competing at the State Geography Bee on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Fawcett Center at the Ohio State University in Columbus. As the Hardin-Houston Local School Champion, Gustav took an online test to qualify for the State Bee. Congratulations Gustav!

Congratulations to Jenna Jarrett who signed on Wednesday, March 29th to play NJCAA Division 2 softball for Edison State Community College. Jenna is the daughter of Beckie and Aric Leonard. She is a three year letter winner. Jenna would like to thank her friends and family for all their support through this journey. Jenna is excited to continue her softball career at Edison.

Kona Ice for LLS fundraiser

Thank you to all who participated in the Student Council’s Kona Ice for LLS fundraiser! Hardin Houston Elementary was presented a check for $626.50 to LLS to contribute to our Pennies For Patients Drive. The students had a great time and were able to make a positive impact on the lives of children affected by childhood cancers.

Power of the Pen

A big "Thank You" goes out to all runners, parent volunteers in the tab room, staff, and administration for a successfully run Power of the Pen Regional competition held here on Saturday February 18th. The results were Houston's own 7th and 8th grade teams racked up points to earn a 4th place out of 21 schools. Congratulations to 8th graders Macy Duhaime who earned a 5th place trophy and Maddy Wills earned 12th place, both out of 50 writers. Next we continue on to the State level in May. An announcement of those writers who qualify will be made at a later time.
