Washington DC Trip Meeting

There will be mandatory meetings for the Washington DC Trip on Monday, September 25th. The meeting for chaperones will start at 6:15 PM in the High School Business Lab (Room 112). The meeting for parents and students will begin at 7:15 PM in the Auxiliary Gym.

Jostens - Class Ring and Graduation Orders

Class Rings: The Jostens Rep will be here on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:15 AM in the commons for class ring orders. Payments of cash or money order only at school – no checks accepted. If you want to order a class ring, bring a $50 deposit and see the representative for assistance. Extra packets are available in the office.

Athletic Patrons

It is time to sign up to be a “Houston Wildcat Athletic Patron.” This year we will again be including a page that mentions you and your family in the winter sports program. By taking part, you will receive one line to list your family members’ names in the program. You will also be helping the athletic department and the athletic boosters cover the many costs involved in running our athletic programs. Other schools’ winter sports programs include similar pages. They have been very well received in those communities. It has also been very successful here for the past nine years.

The cost of being a “Houston Wildcat Athletic Patron” is $10. We will put a page in the program with the heading, “The Houston Athletic Department and The Houston Athletic Boosters would like to thank the following Houston Wildcat Athletic Patrons.” The list of names will appear under this heading. Fall Sports Awards Program

Houston High School held the Fall Sports Awards Program on Tuesday, November 1st. Golf award winners were Tristin Stangel and Cameron Via with the Low Stroke Average, Cole Pitchford received the Most Improved Award and Bryan Funk was the Wildcat Award Winner. Volleyball award winners were Sarah Monnier with the Best Offensive Player Award, Olivia Bowser with the Best Defensive Player Award and the Wildcat Award. Cross country award winners for the boys team were Tristin Freistuhler as the Top Runner, Wesley Jester as Most Improved, and Devyn Ostrander with the Wildcat Award. Cross country award winners for the girls team were Morgan Ely as the Top Runner, Hollie Voisard as the Most Improved, and Allie Voisard with the Wildcat Award. Several cross country runners were also recognized for earning All League honors; they are Tristin Freistuhler and Hollie Voisard were 1st Team SCAL and Ethan Knouff, Parker Cox, Morgan Ely, and Allie Voisard were 2nd Team SCAL.

Junior High Dance

The Student Council will be holding a Junior High Dance on Friday September 22nd from 7:00-10:00 PM. This event is for Houston students only. No dates outside the school will be allowed. Students need to wear casual dressy clothes that are school appropriate, and no jeans. The tickets will be $3 at the door. A DJ will be running the music and there will be concessions available for purchase. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Merickel.

Ag Warrior Dash

The Houston FFA Chapter along with the Covington FFA Chapter are hosting an Ag Warrior Dash on September 30, 2017 for anyone in 7th grade or older. This 5K will include 10 obstacles that represent agricultural tasks. The cost is $25 and includes an Ag Warrior Dash medal and t-shirt. The event will take place at the Indian Hills 4H Camp. 2017 Houston Golf Team Benefit Scramble

The third annual Houston Golf Team Benefit Scramble will take place on Sunday, October 1st at 1:00 PM.  Teams and hole sponsors can sign up using the downloadable form on our website homepage (wildcatsgolf.com).  Copies of the form are also available in the office, and you can always email Coach Fridley for a copy (nfridley@hardinhouston.org).  Forms need to be turned in by Friday, September 22nd.

All profits from this scramble go directly to help the Houston High School Golf Team purchase team memberships, equipment, and team uniforms for 2018.  These memberships provide over 20 students the opportunity to learn and play the game of golf.  Thank you for your support of these kids and for your support of Houston High School!

Early Dismissal

Hardin-Houston Local School will be having a building safety training on Friday, September 1st.  The training will require the students to be released from school at approximately 2:00 PM.

Senior Slideshow

Seniors, it's time to start bringing in senior pictures, baby pictures, and other pictures for the senior slideshow. Pictures can be dropped off in Mr. Brown’s computer lab whether they are hard copy or digital copies. Any pictures that can be sent in digitally (on a CD, flash drive, camera, or email) will be greatly appreciated since scanning the pictures takes up the most time. If you bring in hard copies of the pictures, please write your name on the back so they can be returned to you. Please turn in your pictures on time as no late pictures will be accepted unless you have spoken to Mr. Brown first. There are multiple deadlines for pictures and they are listed below. For more information about the senior slideshow, contact Mr. Brown at the school either by email (gbrown@hardinhouston.org) or by phone (937) 295-3010 ext 2013.

  • Baby Pictures and non-senior year candid pictures by November 30th
  • Fall Sports pictures by November 30th
  • Senior Pictures by February 8th. See Mr. Brown if you have a problem.
  • Winter Sports within two weeks of season’s end.
  • Homecoming Pictures by February 8th
  • Prom pictures by April 12th
  • Last day for senior year candid pictures is May 1st
  • Spring Sports pictures by May 1st

Fee Pay Day:

Fee Pay Day is on Thursday, August 10th from 7:00AM- 7:00PM.  Students can pick up class schedules, pay school fees, deposit money in lunch accounts, purchase a parking pass, and acquire locker combinations.  Due to the extended hours on Fee Pay Day, office hours on Friday, August 11th will be 7:00AM- 11:00AM.

9th & 7th Grade Orientation:

Junior High Volleyball

Monday, July 31st at 6:00PM in the Commons is the mandatory OHSAA preseason meeting. This meeting will be followed by a brief parent/player meeting to go over expectations for the season. Practice begins August 1st from 8:30 - 10:30AM. All players must have a completed physical to participate.

Fall Sports Preseason Meeting

Houston High School will hold the fall sports preseason informational meeting on Monday, July 31st at 6:00 PM in the commons. The Ohio High School Athletic Association requires the Houston High School Athletic Department to hold preseason informational meetings for parents and athletes in grades 7-12. A parent and athlete are only required to attend one of these meetings per school year. If a parent and athlete attend the fall meting, the parent and athlete do not have to attend the winter or spring meeting. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly. Again, this is a mandatory meeting and your child’s participation will be declined until the requirement is met.
