Congratulations State Bound Cross Country Runners

Congratulations to the cross country runners that qualified for the State Meet. The boys team finished in 3rd place to earn a state berth. For the girls team, Hollie Voisard earned a state berth by finishing 12th.

College and Financial Aid Night

If your child is planning to go to college after high school, Houston is hosting its annual College and Financial Aid Night. The event will be on Tuesday October 24 at 6:30 PM in the school's Media Center. College representatives will present information on finding the right college and the financial aid process, including the FAFSA. There will also be a presentation on the Barnes Trust Student Loan program. Hope to see all of you there!

Congratulations Alyssa Kemp

Congratulations to Alyssa Kemp for breaking the Season Assists Record with 503. The previous record of 500 was set by Heather Bray in 2003.

Winter Sports Preseason Meeting

Houston High School will hold the winter sports preseason informational meeting on Monday, October 16th at 6:00 PM in the commons. The Ohio High School Athletic Association requires the Houston High School Athletic Department to hold preseason informational meetings for parents and athletes in grades 7-12. A parent and athlete are only required to attend one of these meetings per school year. If a parent and athlete attend the fall meting, the parent and athlete do not have to attend the winter or spring meeting. Please mark your calendars and plan accordingly. Again, this is a mandatory meeting and your child’s participation will be declined until the requirement is met.

Early Dismissal

Hardin-Houston Local School will dismiss at 12:45 PM on Tuesday, October 17th for teacher professional development.

Picture Day

Hardin-Houston Local School will hold picture retakes on Thursday, October 19th starting at 8:00 AM in the high school gym.

Volleyball Tournament Information

Varsity Volleyball

In the Sectional Tournament, Houston defeated Twin Valley South in the semifinals and will play Ft. Loramie in the Sectional Finals at Arcanum High School on Wednesday October 25th starting at 6:00 PM. Admission is $6 per person. For the complete bracket, click here.

Cross Country District Information

The high school boys and girls cross country teams will compete in the District Meet at Cedarville on Saturday October 21st. The girls will run at 10:00 AM and the boys will run at 10:45 AM. Admission is $6 per person. For more information including a course map, click here.

Congratulations to the cross country runners that qualified for the Regional Meet. The boys team won the District Championship. For the girls team, Hollie Voisard earned a regional berth by finishing 21st.

Congratulations Volleyball Players

Congratulations to Sarah Monnier on receiving 2nd Team All SCAL and Jess Monnier for receiving Honorable Mention All SCAL. Sarah also made 2nd Team for District 9 and was selected to play in the Division 4 All Star Game. The game is on Wednesday, November 15th at Springfield High School and will start following an awards ceremony at 6:30 PM.

For the boys team, Tristin Freistuhler and Ethan Knouff earned 1st team honors and Blake Jacobs earned 2nd team honors. For the girls team, Hollie Voisard earned 1st team honors and Morgan Ely received 2nd team honors.

Congratulations Sarah Monnier

Congratulations to Sarah Monnier for breaking the career digs record with 750 digs. The previous record of 563 was set by Jessica Girod during the 2002-05 seasons. 

5th and 6th Grade Musical, The Best Little Theater in Town!

Please join the 5th and 6th grade students on October 12th as they put on "The Best Little Theater in Town!" at 2:00 PM (show for elementary students) and 7:00 PM. Watch the story unfold as this small town theater company struggles to make ends meet. There's plenty of drama and more than enough comedy in this fabulous theatrical score and entertaining story.

Chicken Dinner Fundraiser

People who purchased chicken dinner tickets can pick up their dinners at Houston High School on October 13th from 4:30-6:30 PM using the back parking lot near the track. Delivery to your car is available by pulling up to the curb. The dinner includes ½ chicken, roll, applesauce and chips. Thank you in advance for supporting the Junior Class. 

High School Grant Challenge

Houston High School has advanced to Round 2 in the High School Grant Challenge sponsored by McDonald's and presented by Touchdown 7. Go to www.HighSchoolGrantChallenge.com to vote for Houston in Bracket 2 D-IV. The two schools with the most votes will win a $10,000 McDonald's Activities Grant. 

Students tour Wright State University

On Thursday October 5th, sixty Houston High School seniors and juniors traveled to Wright State University to tour the campus. 

Students attend Honda Manufacturing Day

On Wednesday October 4th, Houston High School students traveled to the Honda Plant in Anna to take part in Honda Manufacturing Day. They received a plant tour and then visited with some colleges. 

Sectional Golf Tournament Results
 
On Tuesday, the Houston Golf Team shot a 391 to beat 6 teams in their Sectional Golf Tournament.  This 391 marks the second lowest 18 hole score for our team this year.  Our team score was enough for a 29 stroke victory over Russia, a 9 stroke victory over Fairlawn, and a 12 stroke victory over Botkins.
 
Cameron Via (Sr.) had a career day on Tuesday with a 18 hole personal record of 86, which was one spot away from qualifying for the District Golf Tournament.  Bryan Funk (Sr.) added a 97, Collin Walker (Fr.) shot a solid 104, and Cole Pitchford (So.) also added a steady 104.

The Philip S. Abbot Junior Honor Society held their fall induction ceremony on Friday, September 29th, 2017. Washington DC Trip Meeting

There will be mandatory meetings for the Washington DC Trip on Monday, September 25th. The meeting for chaperones will start at 6:15 PM in the High School Business Lab (Room 112). The meeting for parents and students will begin at 7:15 PM in the Auxiliary Gym.

Jostens - Class Ring and Graduation Orders

Class Rings: The Jostens Rep will be here on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:15 AM in the commons for class ring orders. Payments of cash or money order only at school – no checks accepted. If you want to order a class ring, bring a $50 deposit and see the representative for assistance. Extra packets are available in the office.

Graduation Orders: The Jostens Rep will be here on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:15 AM in the commons for graduation supply orders. Bring a $75 deposit and order form. Extra packets are available in the office.
