Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Engraved Brick Pavers

Hardin-Houston Local School is currently selling personalized engraved paver bricks to residents, alumni and local businesses. The 4" X 8" pavers will be placed at the front entrance of the new building. The personalization may include your name, company name, recognition of military service, or in memory of loved ones. There will be approximately thirteen hundred pavers available, sold on first come, first serve basis. Please fill out the information below and attach your check of $50.00 payable to “Houston Athletic Fund.” For more information and the order form, click here.

Geography Bee

Hardin-Houston Local School held their Geography Bee on Thursday, January 12th. 8th grader Gustav Gothberg was the winner and 8th grader Collin Walker was 1st runner-up. Congratulations gentlemen!

Door Decorating Contest

The Junior High and High School Student Council held a Holiday Door Decorating Contest this December. There were three categories in which the entries competed.  The winners:

Best Holiday/Christmas Theme: Mrs. Wintrow's 8th period American Literature class

Most School Spirit: Mr. Bayless's 8th period Science 8 class

Best Overall Design: Ms. Bornhorst's 8th period Art II class

FFA State Job Interview Contest

Congratulations to Kelci Cooper for placing 2nd in Division 2 in the FFA State Job Interview contest on Saturday, December 3rd.

Spelling Bee

Hardin-Houston Local School held the spelling bee on Wednesday, November 30th. The winner was 6th grader, Bryce Sauvie. The runner-ups were 6th grader, Grace Koenig and 8th grader Maddy Wills.

Jostens - Class Ring Delivery and Graduation Orders

Class Rings: The Jostens Rep will be here on Monday, November 7th at 7:15 AM in the commons for class ring delivery. Payments of cash or money order only at school – no checks accepted. If you want to order a class ring, bring a $50 deposit and see the representative for assistance. Extra packets are available in the office.

Graduation Orders: If you did not turn in your graduation order, Jostens will return on Monday, November 7th at 7:15 AM in the commons. This is the last in school order day. Bring a $75 deposit and order form. Extra packets are available in the office.

National Honor Society holds fall induction

The David L. Boggs Chapter of the National Honor Society held their fall induction ceremony on Friday, October 28, 2016. The new inductees are Lauren Brubaker, Hanna Cassel, Melissa Compton, Cierra Cozad, Ailia DeWitt, Angelina DiLullo, Lauren DiLullo, Morgan Ely, Bryan Funk, Dexter Ingle, Chare Jeffries, Allison Langenkamp, Kara Maier, Sarah Monnier, Rebekah New, Devyn Ostrander, Kaeden Reier, Caleb Sluss, and Madison Stahler.

Congratulations Alyssa Kemp

Congratulations to Alyssa Kemp for breaking the Season Serve Percentage Record. Alyssa had a 99.0% Serve Percentage. The previous record of 98.2% was set by Jenna Mounts in 2015.

FFA Green House Dedication

On October 18th, Houston FFA Officers, FFA Advisor Derek McCracken, and Representatives from Cargill, Fertilizer Dealer Supplier, and Channel (a division of Monsanto) attended the dedication ceremony for the green house.

FCCLA Family Movie Night

The FCCLA chapter will once again be hosting their annual Family Movie Night on Friday, October 14th, 2016 from 6:30-8:30 PM in the school's commons for students in grades K-6. This year's movie is Hotel Transylvania. Students will be given one free popcorn and drink to enjoy throughout the movie. Students are welcome to bring pillows and blankets to lay on the floor, and parents are more than welcome to stay! **Ohio State Football game is a night game on October 15th, so you can play in the golf tournament and not miss the game!

Safety Day

Hardin-Houston Local School will practice our building-wide Emergency Evacuation Drill where our student population relocates to the Houston Community Center. This year’s drill is taking place on Friday, September 9th. Buses will depart Houston Community Center to deliver students home between 1:30 – 1:45 PM. You cannot pick students up at Houston Community Center.  Athletes, car riders and car drivers will be brought back to the school around 1:20 PM.  Students can be picked up at the normal spots. UVCC students will be brought back to campus at 12:30 PM. All work release and post-secondary students will be dismissed at 12:30 PM. Depending on the weather, the makeup date will be Friday Sept 16th.

FFA State Convention

The Houston chapter of FFA attended the State Convention on May 5th and 6th. They received several awards at the State FFA Convention on May 6th. For pictures of award, click here.

Congratulations Ava Parin

Congratulations to Ava Parin for breaking the junior high pole vault record by clearing 7 feet 6 inches at the Covington Invitational on Tuesday, May 3rd. The previous record of 7 feet 3 inches was set by Megan Phyillaier in 2008.

Congratulations Macey Stang

Congratulations to Macey Stang for breaking the season RBI record with her 39th RBI on Thursday May 12th against Bradford. The previous RBI record was set by Kelli Watercutter in 2001. She also broke the career hits record with her 142nd hit on Tuesday, May 3rd against Anna. The previous record of 141 hits was held by Heidi Taviano. Macey has now extended her record to 150 hits. Macey previously broke the career runs scored record by scoring her 124th career run on April 26th against Botkins. Macey was passed by team mate Micalah Hensley for the runs scored record. The record of 122 runs scored was previously held by Kelli Watercutter.

Congratulations to Micalah Hensley for breaking two records. She broke the career home runs record with a grand slam against Fort Recovery on April 30th which was her 16th career home run. The previous record of 15 was set last year by Hannah Trent. Micalah also broke the career runs scored record by scoring her 129th career run on April 30th against Fort Recovery. She broke the record that was previously set by teammate Macey Stang earlier this season. The old record of 122 runs scored was previously held by Kelli Watercutter. Micalah has extended both of her records with her 18th career home run and her 141st career run scored.
