A Message from the Principal
St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible, and suddenly you’re doing the impossible.” At Hardin-Houston Elementary, that is exactly what we did last year. After two years of being rated as Excellent by the state of Ohio, we lost that honor and were ranked as Effective for 2009-10. That was not good enough for us, so we set goals for ourselves, plotted our course, and set sail. The year was a tough one! Starting at the beginning of August, we suffered through unbearable heat to begin the year. Keeping the attention of students was quite a challenge, but with determination, our staff brought out the best in our students. We continued throughout the year with very few breaks, attempting feats never before tried.
Both staff and students exhibited flexibility and eagerness to try. The year ended in early May, and everyone was exhausted, but what a year upon which to reflect! We accomplished the seemingly impossible and earned back our Excellent rating. I am so proud of our students, our staff, and our parents. Thank all of you for the hard work and dedication. I’d like to say that we can now coast easily along, but last year was just the first step in our journey. We now have new challenges that await us. We will be opening the year in our brand new K-12 facility. It is truly an exciting venture that I can’t wait to begin. Hardin-Houston offers a wonderful opportunity for students and their families. We are a small family, ourselves, and our staff cares immensely about each of our students. We are dedicated to providing the best
education possible to EVERY student in our district. Come join us as we begin our adventure of 2011-12.
